300% increase in downloads from destra’s MP3.com.au site
Like a ‘Mister Whippy’ van on a hot summer’s day, destra Corporation Limited (ASX:DES) has seen a 300 per cent annualised increase in downloads from the company’s MP3.com.au website by Apple iPod users. In downloading free legal music, these iPod users are generating thousands of advertising dollars for Australia’s No 1 independent music website.
destra’s CEO, Domenic Carosa said, “Since marketing to Apple iPod owners that free legal music is available on our MP3.com.au website, the download rush has overwhelmed us. Our advertisers love it and the advertising revenue we generate goes straight to our bottom line.”
MP3.com.au has over 70,000 tracks from over 15,000 independent artists across the globe and over 200,000 registered users. These artists have willingly placed their music on the website free of charge for users to download. The MP3 format is compatible with the Apple iPod.
“During the last 12 months, we have had over 18 million downloads and streams from MP3.com.au, making it one of the most popular digital music sites in Australia,” said Carosa.
destra Music, another fully owned subsidiary of destra was the first company in Australia to launch a legal digital music service in December 2003. Today, destra Music has access to over 500,000 tracks from major record companies including EMI, SonyBMG, Warner and FMR, while digital music delivery is managed through retail partners such as Sanity.com.au, Harvey Norman, JB HI-FI.com.au, The ABC (the ABC Shop, triple j and ABC Classic FM) and Chaosmusic.com.
“The downloading of online music is now understood by the Australian market as it continues to grow. We are looking forward to the launch of the Apple iPod website in Australia as part of the growth of the overall marketplace,” concluded Carosa.
