The updated site offers thousands of free and legal tracks available for download, and promotional tools to help budding artists ensure their music receives the attention it deserves on a global scale.

Established in 1999, MP3.COM.AU was designed as a promotional and networking tool to help artists find an audience. Today the website relaunches with additional features to provide artists with more opportunities to get their music heard.

MP3.COM.AU gives Australia’s emerging artists and fans the following new promotional features:

  • Upload your tracks and videos as free streams and/or downloads
  • Create and manage a profile page
  • Post the latest news or blog about your band
  • Submit details on gigs
  • Post in the new, improved forum
  • Have your music reviewed by fans, peers and our music editors
  • Fans can download tracks for free and create playlists they can save or share with friends

Covering all genres of music including rock, punk, pop, hip-hop, funk and dance, MP3.COM.AU offers users the opportunity to have direct access to their favourite artists. By subscribing to artist pages, users receive the latest music and news of their preferred bands as they post it on the site. These updates are supplied via email, RSS or to the subscribers’ personal homepage and include new blog and news entries, photos, reviews, gigs, tracks, albums and videos.

Domenic Carosa, CEO of Destra said “Any band that signs up to MP3.COM.AU is guaranteed that their music will be shared with the hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors to the site, as well as the multitude of record labels, booking agents, managers, promoters and musicians who frequent the site. MP3 can contribute to an increase in gig attendance, fans and music sales. The website’s additional features mean that the country’s emerging artists have the world at the fingertips.

MP3.COM.AU has long been known as the home for Australia’s independent legends bands such as British India, Young and Restless, E.E.S. and The Wednesday Society. With the number of free downloadable tracks growing daily, users will be assured to hear the freshest tunes from across the nation. For users it is important to note that all tracks on the site are legal and free for download, especially considering that over a four week period 32.4%** of music downloaded in Australia was done so illegally. – MP3.COM.AU is a site that you can trust. By subscribing to artists pages and downloading their tracks, users can help discover the next crop of Australia’s indie artists.”

In addition, MP3.COM.AU offers independent artists and bands innovative ways to get their music heard live, as they organise and present live music events. Recent examples include the MILO Cereal Planet X Junior Games in May and the Planet X Winter Games in August. All bands that play these showcases are recorded live and given their live clip footage free of charge. They also have their live performances featured in the Planet X programs aired on Channel 9 and Foxtel nationally.

Earlier this year, MP3.COM.AU released its first commercial compilation entitled ‘Discoveries’. Featuring twelve artists all selected from the site, this CD/DVD release was advertised and reviewed through a variety of media outlets nationally providing additional coverage to the artists.

To mark the occasion MP3.COM.AU is hosting a relaunch party on Thursday 6th September at Melbourne’s Arthouse, with special guests Chris Byrne (mp3.com.au/chrisbyrne), who will be performing in his only Melbourne gig this year, and local rock band Fire Underground (mp3.com.au/fireunderground). MP3.COM.AU is offering 25 double passes to users via the website, so fans will need to be quick to secure their tickets to the invite only party.
