8 May 2007

from: Destra Media

“Everything that made the site popular with our community has been SUPER ENHANCED The relaunched website is a great introduction for anyone who is not familiar with new media, as its clean interface and direct browsing features, means that users can easily search theScene for the information that’s relevant to their interests. What has remained is what is critical to a community based website, the Forum. The Forum is one of our most popular features and is what defines our website. We don’t tell our users what’s trendy or popular, we expect them to tell us – they create theScene”.

Where are Australia’s 18-32 year olds hanging out these days? Coffee shops, the local pub, the gym? Think again.

The digital generation are proudly involved in creating a new scene – thescene, the nation’s premier lifestyle website, which is a one stop lifestyle shop for all the latest news and reviews in the world of music, fashion, travel and technology.

What started out as a small community website eight years ago, today relaunches with a sleeker look, new lifestyle sections such as technology and culture and a blog function that allows theScene’s dedicated community a greater level of interaction.

Sharon Ashworth, General Manager of Marketing & Content Services of destra media, explains, “TheScene website relaunch demonstrates the power of community based websites. TheScene’s popularity amongst the digital generation, as a source for lifestyle news and a trusted place to hang out with like minded people, has grown dramatically.  As such we have had to accommodate the growing community and their interests.

The revamped website includes a new ‘my city’ feature, which allows users to choose what capital city they come from or are travelling to, keeping them in touch with local news and events. By clicking on a capital city users can see reviews of the latest bars and restaurants, as well as the list of the latest activities happening in the local area.

The new Culture section covers information about movies (and short films), DVDs, fine arts and books, which get reviewed and rated by users. TheScene’s contributors share their opinions on the latest releases, artists and live performances, so jetsetters are kept informed of the top travel destinations with travel tales, guides and galleries.

TheScene has also launched a new technology section that includes everything you need to know about latest gadgets and games. It’s also possible for those who are time poor to keep their finger on the pulse of all the latest lifestyle news by subscribing to thescene’s fresh, newlooking weekly newsletter.

For the regular users, there’s no need to panic, theScene is still the premier location for all of the up to date news from the fashion, music and travel scenes. With upfront news from the world of fashion, theScene’s contributors cover everything from the latest festivals and runways shows, the tips and tricks of the textile trade and profiles of both established and up-and-coming designers worldwide.

Joining theScene team are Steve Smiles and Jess Moretti, two dedicated writers with a passion for art, music, fashion and pop culture. Steve has contributed to various publications including Beat Magazine and Herald Sun. He is also a musician and an event organizer. Jess also has a background in Streetpress, having spent the last 5 years working with Inpress, and freelances to both local press and online blogs.
